It’s easy to imagine students at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT, who also consider themselves Red Sox fans screaming “Noooo!” when they heard the news Thursday about their reported new athletic director.
According to a report in the Connecticut Post, Bobby Valentine will become the Pioneers’ new athletic director after current AD Don Cook retires on July 1.
“An intriguing opportunity has been presented to me and it’s something I really feel I can enjoy doing and I feel could be mutually beneficial,” said Valentine, who grew up in nearby Stamford.
It goes without saying, but administrators no doubt hired Valentine hoping for the exact opposite results of his most recent job: A disastrous one-year tenure as manager of the Red Sox, during which he went 69–93.
