Tony Beckham’s day job is creative services director for WNCF-TV in Montgomery, AL. But he also moonlights as a singer/performer named Nucklez. And he loves Alabama football.
Nucklez collaborated with Gambit Family, a four-person rap crew also based out of Montgomery, to produce a song and subsequent music video called “Turn It Up (Roll Tide).” Shot at a tailgate outside Bryant-Denny Stadium, the video has Nucklez waxing poetic about Crimson Tide football and the tailgating that comes with it.
While the lyrics are pretty cheesy — e.g. “No competition in Tuscaloosa we hardly stop / Saban got the gridiron, Nucklez he got the parking lot” — the production value of the video is first rate. It looks and sounds like an actual song in the club. And Nucklez knows how to rock the “Miami Vice”-like all-white suit and red buttoned-down shirt.
Perhaps the Bryant-Denny PA system would be so kind as to play this during Saturday’s Iron Bowl.
