UNC Greensboro sorely missed the scoring ability of guard Trevis Simpson (19.1 PPG) in its 89–68 loss at NC State on Monday night. So why was the Spartans’ leading scorer sidelined against the Wolfpack?
Embarrassingly, it was due to an ankle injury sustained when Simpson was startled by an automatic door while walking through the team hotel following a pregame nap.
“I just stopped suddenly because I thought I was going to be in the path of somebody else, and I was going to let them through,” Simpson told Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Eisenberg. “Once I realized nobody was there, I tried to keep walking, I heard a pop in my ankle and it started burning and aching. It was then that I realized something wasn’t right.”
Thankfully for Simpson, he didn’t suffer any ligament damage and was able to play in UNCG’s loss on Saturday at Davidson. Still, he’d be wise from this point on to collect himself more following his pregame naps lest he be startled into another injury again.
