Wofford Has Epic Fail in FCS Playoffs

Comments

We’ve already seen Texas Tech allow a touchdown while receiving a kickoff this fall and now Wofford has been added to that list.

The Terriers trailed 21-14 vs. Northern Iowa on Saturday in the second round of the FCS playoffs when Stephon Shelton received a kick in the end zone and forget to kneel down. Instead, Shelton walked around the end zone, dropped the ball and appeared outraged when someone ran into him. The Panthers hopped on the ball for a touchdown and the game-winning score in a 28-21 victory.

Making matters even worse, Shelton had committed a personal foul on a field goal try on the previous possession that led to another Northern Iowa touchdown, meaning that his back-to-back gaffes cost Wofford 14 points. You have to feel horrible for a kid that just turned 21 on Sunday.

“For the life of me, I don’t get it,” Wofford head coach Mike Ayers told GoUpstate.com. “Evidently, he didn’t understand that you have to take a knee. He’s returned a lot of kicks for us and has taken a knee several times. I don’t know. In the heat of the moment, things go awry.”

That would be an understatement.
