Comments

Ohio State’s Jay Burson suffered a broken neck on Feb. 13, 1989, after a midair collision with Iowa’s Ed Horton caused him to hit the base of the basket head first. Amazingly, Burson played the rest of the game and didn’t learn the severity of the injury until later. He was forced to where a halo to immobilize his neck and never played again for the Buckeyes. A two-time team MVP, Burson is now a motivational speaker who uses his neck injury and subsequent recovery, among other things, as part of of his message. He currently resides in Newark, OH.
