WSU AD: No Bowl Tix for Leach Haters
Washington State AD Bill Moos developed a routine in response to the nastiest e-mails he got from Cougars fans during Mike Leach’s disastrous 3-9 debut season last year.
“I answer all of those emails, then I send them to the Cougar Athletic Fund to see what their gift history is, and what their ticket purchase history is,” Moos told The Olympian. “Pretty amazing — about 85-90 percent of them are not members of the CAF.”
He would also forward the e-mails that truly irked him to an assistant AD with instructions that whoever wrote them would be placed in a file with others who will not be allowed to purchase bowl game tickets from the school in the future.
“I’ve got a no-bowl ticket file, and I want people on board and believing in what we’re doing, and trusting how we’re going about it,” Moos said. “If they don’t want to be on the train, the train’s already pulled out of the station.”
As fate would have it, Washington State is 6-5 on the year heading into the season-ending Apple Cup with Washington, making it bowl eligible for the first time since 2006.
