Magical ND Season Due to ‘Lucky Shirt’?
You know those Bud Light “Very Superstitious” ads that have been running during the NFL season, with the tagline “It’s Only Weird If It Doesn’t Work”? We’ve found the college equivalent of that.
On August 31, the day before Notre Dame’s season opener against Navy, YouTube user Ross182AvA posted a video of himself breaking a tattered green Irish t-shirt encased in glass. He explains in the video that prior to the shirt’s “retirement” in 1993, Notre Dame had never lost a game at which he wore it.
Following what he called “20 years of futility,” the fan decided to unretire the shirt. Lo and behold, Notre Dame is now 8–0 and ranked No. 3 in the BCS. The fan was present for two of those wins, against Purdue and Miami (FL).
If this fan hasn’t already contacted the Fighting Irish athletics department requesting good luck charm VIP access to Notre Dame’s remaining games, we recommend that he do so.
