Vandy’s Franklin Stops Presser, Hugs Fan

If Vanderbilt’s ability to win games continues to be directly proportional to the number of viral videos it generates, the Commodores could become a perennial SEC power very soon.

Following Vandy’s 38–24 victory over NC State in the Music City Bowl on New Year’s Eve, coach James Franklin fielded a postgame press conference question from a fan who wanted to thank Franklin and his team for their on-field success. Rather than glossing over it, Franklin invited the fan up near the podium for a hug.

Franklin continues to burnish his reputation as one of the cooler coaches in the sport. He holds impromptu dance parties, awards scholarships in surprise fashion and carries the school mascot off the field to celebrate big wins. Little wonder that he’s getting talented players to come to Nashville and reversing the fortunes of a long-moribund program.
