UPenn QB Suffers Gruesome Ankle Injury

If you thought Marcus Lattimore’s injury was brutal to watch, brace yourself because ankles are not meant to bend the way that Penn QB Billy Ragone’s did after he suffered a gruesome injury against Harvard last Saturday.

On the final play of the third quarter during the Quakers’ 30–21 victory, Ragone was tackled on a QB keeper by several Harvard defenders. When the pile cleared, the senior’s left ankle was grotesquely bent out of shape. The reaction of Harvard DT James Klein (No. 80) says it all.

Penn clinched at least a share of the Ivy League title and can win it outright with a victory at Cornell on Saturday. Penn associate director of athletic communications Eric Dolan says that Ragone underwent surgery on Thursday — after which he was joined by several of his teammates and coach Al Bagnoli — and plans to watch Saturday’s game either from the sidelines or the stands.

The Quakers would celebrate an outright Ivy League title with an on-field trophy presentation following Saturday’s game. It would certainly go a long way in Ragone’s recovery.

[WARNING: The injury in this video is very graphic in nature and not for the squeamish.]
