UND Suspends Radio Man for ‘Choke Job’
A memo to college basketball radio broadcasters everywhere: Avoid any editorializing in your post-game interviews with coaches and players. Otherwise you’ll end up like North Dakota’s Paul Ralston.
On Monday, the university announced that Ralston had been suspended for the next two games after he used the words “choke job” in his interview with coach Brian Jones following UND’s game on Saturday. North Dakota held a three-point lead with 47 seconds left against Northern Arizona before UNA rallied to force overtime and eventually win the game, 74-72.
Was Ralston unfairly punished for simply speaking the truth? Perhaps. One thing that’s for sure is that he’ll be consulting his thesaurus to find new ways of describing a blown late lead.
