UCLA Unveils Smurf-Like ‘Blue Out’ Unis
In its crosstown rivalry game against USC on Wednesday, UCLA hopes it can leave the Trojans feeling blue. At the very least, USC will be seeing a lot of it.
On Monday, the Bruins unveiled alternate “Blue Out” uniforms. They are just the latest Adidas team to sport threads with a “solid color blocking of team logos and a shimmer finish for a bold on-court look.”
We never condone changing some of the best uniforms in the sport. But compared to the other “Bleed Out” uniforms we’ve had to endure this season, UCLA’s isn’t quite as bad. The way in which the darker-hued “UCLA” and player numbers pop, thanks in large part to gold outlines, makes this stand out from its counterparts at other schools.
We do, however, hope that not all Bruins players take Larry Drew II’s lead and sport knee-high blue socks and all-blue shoes. Otherwise we’ll be referring to them as the “UCLA Smurfs” for at least one night. Grade: B-
