Top QB Recruit Gunner Kiel Picks LSU

Can 2011 get any better for Les Miles?

Not only does he have the No. 1 ranked team in America who is 13-0 this season and will play No. 2 Alabama for the national title in his backyard of New Orleans, now the Mad Hatter has landed the top quarterback recruit in the country, Gunner Kiel.

Kiel, the 18th ranked player overall in the country according to Rivals, picked LSU over Vanderbilt and Notre Dame after originally committing to Indiana but decommitting from the Hoosiers in October. The Indianapolis native is also headed South despite the fact sophomore Zack Mettenberger, a highly touted former recruit himself, is already waiting in the wings for next season.

Said Kiel to 247Sports: “I can’t wait to play in the SEC. A lot of people call it the NFL of college football and it will be an exciting time. It would mean a lot to be a starting quarterback in such a great conference at a great school. I really love the players and the coaching staff. They were all great to me on my visit and seemed very welcoming.”

We can hear the “S-E-C!” chants from here.
