Texas Tech’s Tuberville Slaps Assistant
Texas Tech is used to controversial behavior from its head coaches, as both former football head coach Mike Leach and ex-men’s basketball coach Billy Gillispie were fired for alleged player abuse.
During Saturday’s game against Kansas, current Red Raiders head football coach Tommy Tuberville raised eyebrows of his own when he slapped the hat and headset off offensive graduate assistant Kevin Oliver during a heated exchange in the third quarter and TTU up only 21-17 on the 1-8 Jayhawks.
While confrontational sideline exchanges between coaches are nothing new to college football, physically striking one of your assistants is unacceptable and will almost certainly lead to a public apology by Tuberville and some form of punishment by the school.
Texas Tech eventually prevailed in double overtime, 41-34, and you can bet there was no one more relieved after the win than Oliver.
