Te’o Hoaxer Hoped to Be On ‘The Voice’
Deadspin did the leg work in discovering that Manti Te’o’s dead girlfriend was a hoax. Now, Us Weekly has provided us all with some information on the alleged perpetrator, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo.
Amazingly, the hoax was not the first time that Tuiasosopo trotted out a car crash story in order to get attention. The aspiring singer spun a similar tale when he auditioned to be a contestant on NBC’s “The Voice.”
“He had this insane sob story before [he sang],” an inside source told the gossip magazine. “It would make for great TV.”
The source said that Tuiasosopo told producers that he and his Christian bandmates were in a “massive” car accident in Nevada in which a truck crashed into them and sent them flip-flopping on the freeway. Doctors thought one of the bandmates might have been brain dead, yet everyone was miraculously fine.
While Tuiasosopo had a moving story, the same could not be said about his voice. None of the four “Voice” judges — Shakira, Usher, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine — turned their chair around and asked Tuiasosopo to be on their team following his performance of Matisyahu’s “One Day.”
