Taco Bell Ends Michigan St. Giveaway
[Update: Following student protests, Taco Bell has reversed course and will continue the tradition.]
On Monday, Michigan State basketball earned its first No. 1 national ranking since 2013. But not all is perfect in East Lansing - particularly for those hungry, budget-conscious MSU student fans who previously relied on the Spartans for free food.
Various Taco Bell locations in the area had long provided a free taco to any customer who presented a ticket stub from a home game in which the Spartans had scored at least 70 points. Not this year, however.
“The sponsorship agreement with them ran out,” MSU associate athletic director Paul Schager told MLive.com, “and they decided not to renew it, although it was a fan-favorite and something very positive and very popular. We did our best to convince them to continue the deal, but they opted out this year.”
Something tells us there will be hell to pay for those aforementioned, local Taco Bells. Taking away free tacos from sports-loving college students seems like a fatal mistake.
