Sun Devils’ Kelly Drag Racing in Free Time

Imagine if you’re Arizona State head coach Todd Graham and your stud rising junior quarterback tells you that he’s spending his break in May going back home to Idaho and drag racing. You’d have to be pretty nervous, right?

That’s exactly what Taylor Kelly — he of the 3,039 passing yards and 29 TDs from a year ago — has done with some of his downtime ever since the end of his sophomore spring semester at ASU.

If Kelly was a less experienced driver (he’s been drag racing since he was in middle school) and/or didn’t have family members looking out for him (he races against his stepfather), we can’t imagine Graham would’ve signed off on it so quickly.

As the case is, Kelly is briefly giving up his pursuit to be next Jake Plummer in favor of being a real-life Dom Toretto with his coach’s blessing.
