Rice to Wear Patriotic Bowl Game Helmets

Comments

Bowl games are a rare occurrence for the Rice football program. So in preparation for their Dec. 29 Armed Forces Bowl matchup against Air Force, the Owls are paying tribute both to the game and their opponent with some special new helmets.

The script “R” on either side of the lid, normally all-white, is colored in with a Stars and Stripes-inspired design that actually resembles the American flag. Down the middle of the helmet are two stripes that follow the same pattern.

We love the script “R” resembling the U.S. flag but could’ve done without the two stripes down the middle. Nonetheless, Rice found a stylish way to commemorate just its fourth bowl appearance since 1961. Grade: B+
