RB Crowell Brings Puppy to ’11 UGA Signing
Perhaps realizing that the National Signing Day “hat dance” had become ... well, old hat, highly-touted running back Isaiah Crowell did something different in February of 2011.
After announcing that he would stay home and play for Georgia, Crowell — who starred at Carver High in Columbus and was the No. 23 overall recruit in the country — didn’t just doff a Bulldogs cap. He also had an actual bulldog puppy, outfitted in a Georgia shirt, brought out on stage for him to proudly show off to those gathered. (“Swear to God, that’s a real dog?!” an incredulous member of the audience is heard asking at the 40-second mark.)
In retrospect, Georgia wishes that Crowell had a little more puppy in him off the field. The Bulldogs dismissed him from the program in June 2012 after he was arrested on three weapons charges. Following a transfer to FCS Alabama State, Crowell rushed for 842 yards and 15 TDs in 2012.
What will be the most memorable National Signing Day announcement this year? Stay tuned on Wednesday to find out.
