Recruit: Duke Couldn’t Spell My Name

Remember when Oregon running back LaMichael James said part of the reason he attended Oregon instead of TCU was that on his recruiting trip to Fort Worth they kept calling him “LaMarcus”?

Well, North Carolina recruit P.J. Hairston, the 13th ranked basketball recruit in the country according to Rivals, can relate.

According to the Greensboro native, Duke blew its chance at landing him when they couldn’t spell his name right on packages they sent him.

“The thing about Duke was, every time they sent me a letter, they wouldn’t spell my name right,” Hairston told the Greensboro News-Record. “They would have ‘T.J. Harrison’ or something like that. And I’m like, ‘OK. How can I go here? You can’t even spell my name right.’ It’s only two letters and HAIR and STON. I’m trying to figure out how that’s so hard.”

Expect Mike Krzyzewski to have a stern talk with his basketball office about this one and North Carolina fans to savor the irony of one of the top universities not being able to spell a recruit’s name correctly.

Here’s a look at what those in Durham will be missing out on:
