Pickens Buys 4,000 Unsold Pokes CBB Tix
To many Oklahoma State athletes, administrators and fans, business magnate T. Boone Pickens is the equivalent of Santa Claus in light of the millions of dollars he’s showered on his alma mater’s athletic department. His Christmas gift to Cowboys fans this year affirms that reputation.
On Tuesday, Oklahoma State announced that the 84-year-old Pickens had bought the remaining 4,000 unsold tickets for the Pokes’ New Year’s Eve home game against Gonzaga. Starting Wednesday, they will be available for free at the Gallagher-Iba Arena box office on a first-come, first-serve basis, with a limit of six tickets per individual.
“I thought long and hard about what gift I could give my fellow OSU Cowboys this year,” Pickens said in a statement. “I couldn’t find enough basketballs, but I did find enough basketball tickets. Let’s put them to good use, pack Gallagher-Iba for the Gonzaga game, and put a great exclamation point on a promising OSU basketball season under Coach [Travis] Ford.”
Cowboys fans are no doubt glad to see that Pickens’ most recent divorce hasn’t sapped him of his giving spirit.
