Texas Tech Cheerleader Kendall Jones’ Hunting Sparks Outrage (PHOTOS)
“Guns Up” isn’t just a mantra that Texas Tech cheerleader Kendall Jones (highlighted in photo above) abides by on the Red Raiders’ sidelines. As an avid big-game hunter, she also adheres to it off the field - and it’s sparked a huge backlash on Facebook.
The Cleburn, TX, native recently posted photos from a hunting trip in Africa where she took down a leopard, rhinoceros, jaguar, lion and elephant (among other animals). Much to the dismay of several commenters, whose criticisms included, “I’d love to drop kick you into a lions’ den, see how you do without your gun.” A Change.org petition calling to stop Jones from hunting has accrued 7,475 e-signatures as of 1:20 PM ET Tuesday.
Jones’ argument: That she’s actually helping to conserve the animals she’s hunting. “Hunters are the biggest conservationists there are,” she said on Facebook. “We want animal populations to grow and thrive!”
A sentiment that might be easier to believe if Jones didn’t also previously state her desire to one day host a TV show on hunting.
