G’town’s New Unis Include Kente Cloth

Comments

When Georgetown takes the floor for its season opener against Florida on Nov. 9, it will do so wearing new Jordan Brand uniforms that are simultaneously modern and salute the Hoyas’ hoops history.

The first thing fans will notice is the return of the same Kente cloth pattern that Georgetown sported in the mid-1990s when Allen Iverson was among the Hoyas’ star players. It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly 20 years since AI was at Georgetown, so this is a nice blast from the past.

Now to the modern aspect. The subtle back-of-the-jersey designs that Nike and Jordan Brand have been implementing over the past few seasons makes its way to Georgetown, too. “1984” is just below the neck to salute the school’s lone national title, and right below that is a visage of former coach John Thompson.

To have Thompson on the jersey like that is a little weird, but considering how much he meant to the school and the program, it’s an understandable choice. Our only complaint is the stripping across the shoulders that clutters the jersey. We’d prefer they just go back to the Iverson Era-unis completely, but these are a pretty good alternative. Grade: B+
