‘Sweet Caroline’ Cut From PSU Games

We never thought we’d see the day when “Sweet Caroline” would be deemed inappropriate for a football stadium but that’s what has happened at Penn State in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal.

The timeless Neil Diamond song from the 1960s is a favorite among fans in Happy Valley - and sports fans in general - that love to sing along to the famous lyrics.

The problem, according to officials at Penn State?

The part about “Touching me, touching you” seemed inappropriate after Sandusky, the school’s former defensive coordinator, was convicted in June on 45 of 48 counts of sexually abusing 10 young boys. As a result, the Altoona Mirror is reporting that the song will not be played at Beaver Stadium this fall.

While we admit that part of the song would have been pretty awkward at Penn State games and it’s better to err on the side of caution in situations like this, this decision is certainly raising some eyebrows.
