OSU Sign Rips Michigan FB Academics
Ohio State’s Urban Meyer has already ruffled the feathers of Wisconsin’s Bret Bielema and Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio and made it known he won’t even speak the word “Michigan” as the Buckeyes head coach.
Apparently, he was just getting warmed up.
Check out the picture below of a sign at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center that compares the majors of football players at Ohio State and Michigan and emphatically shuns the studies of football players for “The Team Up North.”
As you can see, 24% of Michigan players reportedly major in “General Studies” - generally believed to be one of the easiest majors in college - while a total of just 3% apparently major in the more difficult majors of Engineering, Biology and Business. On the flip side, 25% of Ohio State players reportedly major in those three areas.
Criticism of Michigan academics for its football players is nothing new as former Michigan QB and current San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh even ripped into them a couple years ago and the general studies division was profiled in-depth by a local paper in 2008, but Meyer has taken this to a new level by so publicly and boldly insulting the Wolverines and their dedication to academics.
And Meyer shouldn’t be too proud considering 24% of his players major in either Communication or Family Resource Management.
We have a sneaking suspicion Michigan head coach Brady Hoke will have something to say about this.
