Obama Avoids Navy Ceremony Faux Pas

When the Navy football team visited the White House on Friday — where Barack Obama awarded the Midshipmen the 2012 Commander-in-Chief Trophy — the team brought along a special gift for the President: His very own Navy football helmet.

Obama was no doubt happy to receive the gift, but he wasn’t about to make himself look foolish a la Michael Dukakis during the ’88 presidential race and put the helmet on, as one player requested.

“Here’s a general rule: You don’t put stuff on your head if you’re President,” Obama told the crowd gathered. “You never look good with something on your head.”

Well played, Mr. President.
