No Manziel on QB White’s Heisman Ballot

Comments

One would think that 2003 Heisman Trophy winner Jason White would have a lot of respect for fellow QBs who are/were just as prolific as he was at Oklahoma. Yet Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel, widely regarded as the frontrunner for the award, is not on White’s Heisman ballot at all.

Like all former Heisman winners, White is eligible to cast a vote each year. And in 2012, White is voting Kansas State QB Collin Klein first, Notre Dame LB Manti Te’o second and Oklahoma QB Landry Jones third.

While Jones had a nice season, he wasn’t even invited to New York for the ceremony. And he’s not even on most pundits’ straw polls, including Heisman Pundit’s.

It’s a nice gesture to let former Heisman winners participate in the process of selecting their successors each year. But White’s irresponsibility with his vote throws that gesture’s legitimacy into question. Jason White profile
