NIU CBB’s Offense Historically Bad in Loss

Comments

Northern Illinois’ athletics website described the Huskies’ loss at Eastern Michigan on Saturday as the team’s “best defensive effort since 2005-06, allowing just 42 points.” What it failed to mention was how historically bad the NIU offense was.

The Huskies managed just 25 points for the game, including four in the first half — the fewest number of first half points by a team in the shot clock era. The previous holder of that dubious record? None other than Northern Illinois, with five last Dec. 1 in a game against Dayton.

NIU also set a new record with 3.2% field goal shooting in the first half — at one point missing 29 consecutive shots — and tied a previous record with one first half field goal made.

25 points for the game? The Huskies’ high-scoring football team is often capable of scoring that many in a single quarter.
