New PSU Jerseys Include Players’ Names

Comments

Penn State football will feature changes to its jerseys for the 2012 season. But it is not the complete overhaul that was initially predicted or feared.

This year’s uniforms will feature a blue ribbon to support all victims of child abuse. And the name of each player will adorn the back of Penn State’s jerseys.

Acting AD David Joyner explained the ribbons thusly: “Coach Bill O’Brien and his football team made it clear they want to support victims and bring more awareness to this issue.”

The players’ names on the jerseys, meanwhile, is acknowledging those who remained at Penn State even after given the option to leave without consequence.

“We want our fans to know and recognize these young men,” O’Brien said. “They have stuck together during tough times, and I commend them for the leadership they have shown.”

After 125 years of football, Sept. 1 will be the first time ever Penn State players will have names on their backs.
