ISU Pregame Rap Features Tech N9ne

Iowa State has a unique way of psyching itself up for games at Jack Trice Stadium these days: with a custom rap song courtesy of Tech N9ne. And it’s awesome.

Tech N9ne had some help. He collaborated with 816 Boyz, a rap group with Kansas City roots like him, the Iowa State band’s drum line and Iowa State student/guitarist Tyler Mock to come up with “Comin Thru,” which plays over the stadium loudspeakers during player warmups.

It all came about courtesy of Cyclones defensive lineman Jake McDonough. He met Tech N9ne’s uncle while working as a member of the security staff at a concert. After introductions were made, McDonough arranged for the song to be produced this past summer.

It’s only been played once, during ISU’s Sept. 15 win over Western Illinois. It’s sure to become a lot more popular when fans hear it during the Big 12 opener against Texas Tech this Saturday.
