Nebraska QB Taylor Martinez Bashes SEC

Taylor Martinez has an interesting way of licking his wounds.

Following his team’s 45–31 loss to Georgia in the Capital One Bowl on New Year’s Day, the Nebraska QB stuck with his pregame assessment that the Bulldogs were “just another typical Big Ten defense” (which, by the way, makes no sense) and then some.

“I think the Big Ten, talent-wise, is a lot better, and the defenses in the Big Ten are better than SEC defenses,” Martinez said in a story for the Lincoln Journal Star. “This was supposed to be one of the top defenses in the SEC, and we pretty much did anything we wanted against them.”

There are at least two problems with that assessment: Georgia shut out Nebraska in the final 24 minutes of Tuesday’s game, forced three Huskers turnovers and one Nebraska TD came on defense. And as far as SEC defenses go, Georgia was only sixth in 2012 in total defense.

We get that Martinez wants to stand up for his conference, but that’s not a prerogative to spout untruths.
