MSU Cheerleader Tackles UW’s Badger in ‘99
School mascots are expected to goof around and be mischievous on the sidelines of college football games. But in the not-so-humble opinion of a Michigan State male cheerleader in 1999, Bucky the Badger took that mischief one step too far when he stole the Spartans’ team flag during that year’s MSU-Wisconsin game.
Bucky’s punishment, courtesy of the aforementioned MSU cheerleader: Being laid out near the back of one of the end zones at Camp Randall Stadium, much to the dismay of the Badgers’ home crowd.
The MSU cheerleader’s tackle was a harder hit than any that the Spartans football team could claim on the day. Wisconsin gashed them for 301 yards on the ground — 214 of which came courtesy of eventual Heisman Trophy winner Ron Dayne — in a 40–10 rout.
