Manziel Kicked Out of Manning Camp?

[Update: According to ProFootballTalk, camp officials are “adamant” that Manziel went home a day early because of an illness, although their denial isn’t very convincing. Meanwhile, Manziel’s father says the quarterback left due to dehydration.]

If reigning Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel wants his college success to translate into a fruitful future NFL career, he evidently has a lot of work to do.

The Texas A&M star QB was reportedly sent home from the Manning Passing Academy at Nicholls State on Saturday by former Ole Miss and NFL standout Archie Manning after showing up tardy for practice that afternoon in Thibodaux, LA, the night before. Manziel was serving as a camp counselor along with other college QBs.

In speaking with the local media, camp officials wouldn’t explain Johnny Football’s absence from Saturday’s activities other than saying that he was “sick” and no longer at the camp. Reports the website Rumors and Rants:

Our source, who wishes to remain anonymous because of his connection to the camp, gave us the scoop after Manziel showed up tardy Saturday afternoon after being out on the town Friday night. The Texas A&M star reportedly enjoyed himself a little too much Friday night and rolled back into the camp at Nicholls State University some time around noon Saturday before getting the boot.

Manziel was supposed to participate in the “Air It Out” competition along with other top collegiate passers Saturday evening. He didn’t. Camp officials told local media that Manziel “is sick” and was no longer at the camp. But our source claims he was kicked out at the behest of Manning paterfamilias Archie.

As pointed out by the site, if Manziel was sick, he made a miraculous recovery by Saturday night, when he was spotted out on the town in College Station:

Manziel’s offseason drama has already included a wild night out after the Cotton Bowl, shoving a graduate assistant and a tweet about how he can’t wait to leave College Station,

If this rumor is in any way true, drawing the ire of pro football’s first family is the last thing an aspiring NFL QB wants to do.
