Manti Te’o: I Can Run 4.5 40-Yard Dash
Plenty of NFL teams are doing their fair share of homework on Manti Te’o’s mental state in advance of April’s draft. Don’t be surprised if a lot of them were unimpressed and/or unmoved by the Notre Dame LB’s excuse for his poor combine showing on Monday.
“I was running near a 4.6, a 4.5 [before the Combine],” Te’o told NFL Network after clocking a disappointing, 4.82-second 40-yard dash. “Today was just a long, long day.”
In Te’o’s defense, he was put through the ringer in Indianapolis. His press conference on Saturday was completely packed, and he met with 20 teams individually. But he had to expect that.
Nonetheless, he vows that GMs, scouts and coaches will see a different player at Notre Dame’s Pro Day workout on March 26. “[People can expect] better numbers,” he said. “[I will be] rested. One day you hit it hard and then you are done.”
For his own sake, Te’o better hope those aren’t hollow words.
