Leach Called Big 12 Commish In-Game

As it turns out, there was more to Mike Leach’s $10,000 fine in 2007 (while he was still the head coach at Texas Tech) than merely calling the officiating a “complete travesty” following a 59-43 loss to Texas.

Leach’s QB from that game, Graham Harrell, recently told Aaron Dickens of RedRaiderSports.com that Leach was so incensed by the officiating in the Texas game, he called then-Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebee to complain. In the middle of the game.

“I can remember in the third quarter, he’s pulling his cell phone out,” Harrell told Dickens. “He always talked to me between series, so he’s talking to me and he pulls his cell phone out and he called the Big 12 commissioner. He’s like cussing out the Big 12 commissioner, telling him like, ‘These refs are screwing us. You better watch my post-game press conference because I’ve got some stuff to say.’ ”

We’re with Football Scoop in expressing our shock that TV cameras from this game (which was broadcast by ABC) didn’t capture this classic moment.
