Lane Kiffin Lies About Voting USC No. 1
Talk about false modesty.
When USC head coach Lane Kiffin was told on Tuesday that his Arizona counterpart, Rich Rodriguez, voted the Wildcats No. 1 in the USA Today coaches’ poll, Kiffin responded, “I would not vote USC No. 1, I can tell you that.”
One problem with that statement: Kiffin voted the Trojans No. 1.
USA Today’s Brent Schrotenboer explains that each coach’s vote is normally kept confidential until the final vote of the regular season. But when a voter such as Kiffin “volunteers false or misleading information about his vote in public,” USA Today will publicly set the record straight.
Kiffin tried clarifying with USA Today in a Thursday night phone interview, saying that he meant that he wouldn’t vote USC No. 1 if he were the media or coaching another team.
In our opinion, there’s nothing to clarify: Kiffin has once again found his foot in his mouth.
