Jerry Glanville Applies for EMU Job

Among those angling to replace the recently fired Ron English as Eastern Michigan’s head football coach is a rather unexpected candidate: 72-year-old Jerry Glanville, most recently the head coach at FCS Portland State in 2009.

“I love coaching football,” Glanville told USA Today when asked why he applied for the job. “The bottom line is coaches coach, preachers preach. They do that until they put them in the box.”

It’s worth noting that this would be a pseudo-homecoming for Glanville, who was raised in Perrysburg, OH - less than a hour due south of EMU’s campus in Ypsilanti - and played college ball in the early 1960s at Northern Michigan.
