James Threatens to Sue FOX Sports
Former SMU running back Craig James’ tenure with Fox Sports Southwest lasted just three days, from August 30th to September 2nd. Now, he’s threatening to sue to get his job back.
Fox Sports Southwest fired James before he formally signed a contract as a result of anti-gay comments he made during his unsuccessful campaign for a seat in the U.S. Senate in 2012. James and his legal team claim that he was fired for his religious beliefs, which is in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
“The actions have also led to the breach of Craig James‘ contract and the impugnment of his career,” reads a letter to FOX from James and his lawyers. “We demand the immediate reinstatement [of] Mr. James to the on-air college football analyst position. If you refuse to reinstate Mr. James, millions of Americans will be left with the impression that you do not respect religious liberty and Liberty Institute will be forced to pursue subsequent legal options.”
We beg to differ. If anything, millions of Americans will be left with the impression that FOX wisely cut ties with James because he’s much more trouble than he’s worth.
