H.S. Announcer Busted for GuJo Quote
FOX college football play-by-play announcer Gus Johnson’s controversial call of a Chris Johnson TD run in 2009 - during which he exclaimed that the Tennessee Titans RB had “getting-away-from-the-cops speed” - has landed a 15-year-old GuJo wannabe in trouble four years later.
The Ohio boy was calling a seventh-grade football game for Margaretta Schools when he used the phrase to describe a long run by an opposing player from Edison Schools that was Haitian. Since then, the boy has received several threats in person and online for his upsetting comment.
Oddly enough, it wasn’t the game above from where the young play-by-play announcer got the inspiration for the call but rather game footage of “Madden NFL 12.”
Let’s just be thankful that young, aspiring play-by-play announcers take their cues from Johnson and not, say, Jim Nantz (“Hello friends…”).
