Gators RB Cries After Scholarship Offer
One of the best parts of fall camp every college football preseason is when onetime walk-on players are awarded with full scholarships — often in surprising fashion.
Following practice on Tuesday, Florida sophomore RB Mark Herndon was so shocked by head coach Will Muschamp’s announcement that he — along with another former walk-on, senior DB Tim Clark — had earned a scholarship that he started sobbing.
“I was not expecting that,” Herndon — who played six games on special teams last season — told GatorZone.com’s Scott Carter. “It threw me so off I just started crying. I couldn’t contain it. He said I deserved it, and I’m just humbled because I feel like it could have been anyone else.”
The touching photo below is of Herndon hugging running backs coach Brian White after the announcement. Expect to see it accompany any big play that Herndon makes this fall on TV.
