Ex-ODU Star Gatling Accused of Squatting

In an 11-year NBA career spent with eight different teams, big man Chris Gatling made close to $30 million. Sadly, Gatling is now facing criminal charges for squatting in a house in Paradise Valley, AZ, for over a year and also trying to rent it on Craigslist.

A two-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year at Old Dominion (1990 and 1991), Gatling reportedly broke into a key box and lived in the house from July 2010 to August 2011. According to police reports, the house’s owners lived in California but mistakenly left the power on.

Gatling tried renting the property for $800/month, listing it as an “ex-NBA” home online. When one potential renter got suspicious, they contacted police.

The 45-year-old Gatling’s attorney, Michael Alarid, said the case is a “misunderstanding.” For Gatling’s sake, we certainly hope so.
