Dreaded SI Cover Jinx for Notre Dame?

Notre Dame’s run to 11–0 this season has contained tinges of the supernatural. In advance of the Irish’s regular season finale at USC on Saturday, one such force could be working against them.

On Tuesday, Sports Illustrated revealed a Notre Dame cover to its Nov. 26 issue. The image of a golden Fighting Irish helmet being thrust triumphantly into the air amid a green shaded background is one of the simplest, prettiest images the magazine has put on its cover in some time.

It would look even prettier if the editors didn’t decide to superimpose Touchdown Jesus on the helmet. Or write “Go Irish” in Latin (“Miraculum Dominae Nostrae”) at the top. They’re tacky touches to an otherwise great cover.

But now onto important matters pertaining to the dreaded Sports Illustrated cover jinx. Just last week, SI had Heisman hopeful Collin Klein on the cover days before his worst performance of the season in an upset loss at Baylor.

Irish fans are hoping the outcome is different for their team this week.
