Darron Thomas With Calgary Stampeders

While he was guiding Oregon to a 24–3 record and a pair of conference titles in his two seasons as the starting quarterback, Darron Thomas likely imagined that he’d spend his 23rd birthday preparing for an upcoming NFL season.

As further proof that life doesn’t always go to plan, Thomas — who turned 23 on Thursday — is yet to make an NFL roster. Many pundits questioned his decision to leave school following his 2011 junior season, after which he went undrafted. He attended mini-camps with the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals but didn’t get picked up by any of them, leading to a spring and summer spent in football purgatory.

Since October, Thomas has been a member of the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders, whose 2013 season gets under way on June 14th. Only time will tell where the Ducks’ all-time leader in career touchdown passes (66) will spend his next birthday. Darron Thomas profile
