Comedy of Errors Results in UGA Safety

College football teams tend to start January 1st bowls rather sloppy because of the long layoff since the end of the regular season, but it’s hard to find an excuse for the comedy of errors on a first-quarter play of the Capital One Bowl between Georgia and Nebraska.

Just a couple minutes into the game, Nebraska was forced to punt from deep in its own end. The ball was blocked by Georgia and it appeared the Bulldogs had a touchdown when WR Justin Scott-Wesley fell on the ball in the end zone. Except, somehow the ball squirted away from Scott-Wesley and several other Georgia players before it rolled out of the back of the end zone for a safety.

While Georgia still picked up two points on the play, this wasn’t the proudest moment for either team.
