Calipari Rips ‘21 Jump Street’ Movie
When John Calipari retires from critiquing referees as a coach, he might be fit for another job: movie critic.
Calipari, whose Kentucky team watches movies before some games tip off, saw “21 Jump Street,” featuring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, before Friday’s Sweet 16 victory over Indiana.
And let’s just say that Calipari didn’t like it. According to the New York Times, he said there were “some of the stupidest things in this movie I’ve ever seen” but admitted that he was not the target demographic.
“I should say it was awful if you’re 53,” Calipari said, according to the Times. “If you’re 19, 20, 21, it was a fun movie. But people were laughing. I was the only one not laughing.”
The cop comedy is a remake of the television series of the same name that ran from 1987-91 and starred a young Johnny Depp. It topped the U.S. box office almost a week ago.
Maybe Coach Cal and his team will watch “The Hunger Games” before Sunday’s Elite Eight matchup with Baylor.
