Athletes aren’t the only ones associated with college sports teams that can be cut.

On Wednesday, Georgetown announced that its live bulldog mascot-in-training, Jack Jr., would no longer be associated with the Hoyas program. The school explained in a press release that it had consulted with professional trainers and Jack Jr.’s breeder before determining that “returning to a home environment is what is best for J.J.”

An incident in the fall in which J.J. injured a small child factored into the school’s decision. Now Georgetown is left scrambling for a replacement on the eve of its first season in the new-look Big East.

We wonder if Jack Jr. woke up one morning to a pink slip in his kennel.
