Brunell Named H.S. Coach in Jacksonville

As an NFL player, retired QB Mark Brunell enjoyed his brightest years in Jacksonville. He’s hoping that a return to football in the same city can turn his life around.

The former Washington star, who filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June 2010, will be the next head football coach and program director at the Episcopal School of Jacksonville.

“Mark has all of the characteristics we desired for the next leader of our program,” said Episcopal athletic director Andy Kidd upon announcing the hiring on Sunday. ”He not only brings with him a wealth of football experience and knowledge, but he has the personal integrity and values we want exhibited by our coaches at Episcopal.”

Before embarking on an NFL career in which he was selected for the Pro Bowl three times, Brunell was a standout signal-caller with the Huskies, earning MVP honors in a 1991 Rose Bowl win over Iowa. He later led the Jaguars to two AFC championship games. Mark Brunell profile
