Bowden Planting Spear at FSU Game
Since his 2009 retirement, former Florida State head coach Bobby Bowden has not attended a single Seminoles football game, not wanting to linger around the program as it moved into the Jimbo Fisher era.
That will change on Saturday when Bowden - along with 400 former FSU players - is expected to attend the Seminoles’ home game against NC State as well as plant Chief Osceola’s spear at midfield before kickoff.
“It’s going to be awesome,” linebacker Christian Jones told ESPN. “He built this team up, so it’ll be awesome seeing him on the field.”
Bowden previous partook in the pregame spear-planting prior to the 2010 Gator Bowl, his final game at Florida State. “There’s no nerves,” Bowden told ESPN when asked about his return to Tallahassee.
Clearly he’s reserving those to see whether the second-ranked Seminoles can remain undefeated.
