Boeheim Talks Gun Control After Win 900
Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim could have easily and understandably spent the entirety of the postgame press conference following his 900th career win on Monday waxing poetic about his Hall of Fame coaching career.
Instead, without being steered toward the topic by reporters, Boeheim spoke out in support of more gun control in America after the tragic shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, last Friday.
“If we in this country as Americans cannot get the people that represent us to do something about firearms, we are a sad, sad society,” Boeheim told those gathered. “This is our fault. This is my fault and your fault. All of your faults if we don’t get out and do something about this.”
Boeheim’s comments drew several claps from the room. It’s worth noting that Boeheim has three young children between the ages of 12 and 14, not that much older than the 20 children who lost their lives last Friday. He remarks were a political statement and the concerns of a protective father.
