Bob Stoops Takes Shot at SEC Defenses
Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops is seemingly making it one of his missions in life to expose the SEC as an overrated conference.
Stoops - who referred to the SEC’s perceived dominance of college football as “propaganda” back in May - recently took a shot at the league’s vaunted defenses in an interview with reporters.
“A few years ago we [the Big 12] had all the quarterbacks and now all of a sudden we can play a little better defense and some other people can’t play defense,” said Stoops. “Funny how people can’t play defense when there’s pro-style quarterbacks over there.”
When a reporter later brought up that two SEC quarterbacks are currently ranked in the Top 10 in the FBS in pass efficiency, Stoops confirmed that his “can’t play defense” comment was in reference to the SEC.
“How’s that happening playing all those SEC defenses?” Stoops asked the reporters. “I still don’t know how [Texas] A&M was third in the country in total offense and scoring offense playing all those SEC defenses. I have no idea how that happened. ... Oh, they’ve got a quarterback, that’s right.”
Shots fired, once again, from Bob Stoops - who, SEC fans will be quick to point out, saw his Sooners team held to 13 points in their Cotton Bowl loss to A&M in January.
