Bill Self Goes on Epic Rant After Loss
Bill Self had reason to be frustrated following Kansas’ 62–55 upset loss to TCU on Wednesday. It was the Jayhawks’ second straight loss — the first time since January 2006 that KU has dropped consecutive games. And it was a loss to the Big 12’s bottom feeder, a Horned Frogs team that was previously 0–8 in conference play.
Self’s disgust with his players reached hyperbolic proportions during his epic postgame press conference.
“This is the worst team that Kansas ever put on the floor, since Dr. (James) Naismith was there (1898-1907),” Self said. “I think he had some bad teams when he lost to Topeka YMCA and things like that in the first couple years. But for the first half, there hasn’t been a team play worse than that offensively.”
That statement then led Self to deliver a moment of levity. “Maybe Northern Illinois [was worse],” he remarked, referring to the Huskies’ four-point output in the first half of their Jan. 26 loss to Eastern Michigan.
Another gem from Self: “If we could start three guys, we’d start three guys,” Self said. “Because I don’t really know who deserves to start. You have got to start five.”
